THE WORD IS: “Remember not the former things, neither consider the things of old.” Isaiah 43:18
THE POINT IS: If you hope to make progress in the future, then you must leave the past behind. The past is over and done with. Don’t dwell on what could have been or should have been. It is what it is. You can’t change the past. You can learn from the past, and you can cherishthe fond memories of the past, but you can’t live in the past. Furthermore, you must not take the past into consideration as a determinant factor regarding the future, and that includes your successes. Too often we limit ourselves going forward because of the failures and problems of the past. If you dwell on the past, then the fear of repeating the failures of the past will discourage you from moving forward.
THE APPLICATION IS: It’s time to move on. The past is gone. So, let it go. You must live in the present as you anticipate the future. But you can’t determine the future anymore than you could change the past. The future is in God’s hands. Your life is His responsibility; He is ready, willing, and able to assume that responsibility if you will let Him. That’s what the Lordship of Christ is all about. Therefore, submit to His Lordship over your life and Christ will guide you safely through the uncharted waters of your future. Go with God and your future will be secure. No matter what happens, the Good Lord will be there for you. Now that’s a future to get excited about!
